		<abstract>The high cost of massive parallel computers and availability of LAN-connected workstations have lead researchers to explore distributed computing using independent workstations. This approach may provide better cost/performance than tightly coupled multiprocessors. In this paper we address the feasibility of such a non-dedicated heteregeneous distributed environment to do volume visualizations using direct volume rendering approach.</abstract>
